LiveAuctioneers online bidding Invaluable online bidding

Hi Everyone, It’s Kent Jackson and Tim Aikens with an update from Uniques & Antiques Auction Sales,

We hope everyone is well during these uncertain times and wanted to check in today with an update on what we’ve been up to, our future auction schedule and protocols we are putting in place in order to reopen our auction and operate safely.

At Uniques and Antiques, we recognized the seriousness of this novel Coronavirus, COVID 19 and on March 13. To protect the safety of our associates, customers, and society we took steps to completely close down our day to day operations to reduce the spread of the virus. This tough decision was even before it was mandated by the state of Pennsylvania that businesses close down.

For the past month we have closed our doors, kept our employees at home (and kept them on the payroll), closed to public consignments, suspended all estate and consignment pickups, and basically ceased in-person interactions with customers at our location. We were still available via telephone and email. We accommodated unattended pickups of sold items using our innovative and secure pickup room. We facilitated pickups by shippers and moving companies. We shipped packages to our online buyers by the hundreds. If you bought something from us in one of our previous auctions in February and March, you were able to arrange to pick it up unattended or have it picked up or shipped. If not, your items are still safe here at our location. We have currently suspended handling fees for items left at our location for more than three weeks. But please schedule a pick up soon as we could use the space!

As this pandemic is progressing we went from expecting to reopen in one week to two weeks, to maybe by May. One thing is clear is that the developing situation is hard to plan for restarting our operations. We want to be aspirational but also want to be prepared.

Our method of having live in-person auction which attracts crowds of hundreds will have to be suspended and replaced with another method of marketing and liquidating our unique merchandise. At this point we have hopes that we will be able to hold traditional style live auctions with an auctioneer by fall 2020, however, this may be as naive as our initial plan to only close down for a week to stop the spread. It will all depend on CDC recommendations, vaccines, or treatments and the measured outcomes of many people contracting and recovering from this virus. These are things we can’t know now.

We are implementing the following.

We will be accepting consignments by appointment only and all items will need to be pre-approved before consigning. Items will be dropped of by consigners outside under our canopy or in our secure pickup room and we will accept the items and move them in.

All auctions will be cataloged and online-only with online bidding on a live bidding platform. We will also accept absentee and phone bidding.

There will be no live, in-person previews. We will, as we always have in the past, include many pictures of our items showing all aspects of the item. Count on us including pictures of identifying marks as well as condition issues. We want buyers to be fully informed about what they are bidding on. We will use more in-depth video previews, sometimes doing a video about a single item. We will also be available to answer specific questions and requests via email and telephone. When it is deemed safe, we will reinstate a small number of by appointment, in-person previews.

Picking up

We will continue to utilize our pick up room and outdoor pickup areas to coordinate self serve pick ups by appointment only. For local buyers, we will also expand our reasonably priced curbside delivery service where we bring the item to your location and you bring it in.
